Software Implementation & Support Technician

SUMMARY:
A leading industrial technology and software solutions provider is looking for a skilled Software Implementation & Support Technician to strengthen its Gauteng-based software team. This role is ideal for a professional with strong technical expertise and a passion for problem-solving in dynamic customer environments.
You will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and supporting specialised software solutions, ensuring seamless operation for clients across Africa and beyond. The position involves both remote and on-site support, software upgrades, database management, technical training, and close collaboration with development teams.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities
Technical

• Install and configure proprietary software and databases at new customer sites
• Maintain and upgrade existing deployments
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues logged via the support desk
• Provide guidance to field technicians
• Diagnose communication problems involving TCP/IP and serial devices
• Develop and maintain SQL scripts for troubleshooting, upgrades, and reporting
• Deliver technical training to internal teams and customers
• Assist with server maintenance and support

• Manage support tickets within agreed turnaround times
• Provide regular progress updates to customers
• Escalate unresolved issues appropriately
• Complete weekly timesheets and administrative reports
• Travel to customer sites when remote resolution isn’t possible
• Participate in deployments and training across Africa and internationally
• Support technical pre-sales activities when required
• Assist with project implementation and commissioning

• Collaborate with developers to resolve software bugs
• Test new software releases internally
• Contribute to team meetings and initiatives

• Stay up to date with operating systems, database technologies, cloud platforms, and related innovations

• National Diploma in IT or relevant certifications (including MS SQL modules)
• 5+ years’ experience in software and MS SQL support environments
• Strong knowledge of MS SQL databases, queries, and database-driven applications
• Proven ability to write, troubleshoot, and optimise SQL scripts
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Valid Code 8 driver’s licence
• Clear criminal record (police clearance required)
• Medically fit with mine medical clearance eligibility
• Willingness to travel extensively across Africa and internationally

• Experience with Azure and/or AWS
• Microsoft Windows administration
• Networking and serial communication knowledge
• Background in industrial or mining systems support
• Bonus: completing a point-and-click adventure game without a walkthrough

• Based at Gauteng head office
• Participation in rotating after-hours support standby roster
• Remote monitoring while on standby
• Travel to remote mining and industrial sites (1–2 weeks at a time possible)
