The Scaffolding Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising scaffolding activities on site, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality, specifications and project timeframes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily scaffolding operations and site activities.
- Plan manpower, materials, equipment and work activities according to project requirements.
- Ensure scaffolding is erected, altered and dismantled in accordance with approved designs, procedures and specifications.
- Ensure scaffolding teams comply with site rules, company procedures and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Conduct and participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings and pre-work inspections.
- Monitor scaffolding work to ensure correct workmanship, stability, access and required safety controls.
- Ensure scaffolding inspections, tagging and handover procedures are completed as required.
- Identify hazards and ensure corrective action is taken promptly.
- Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, defective equipment and other safety concerns.
- Supervise and provide guidance to Charge Hands, Scaffolders and General Workers.
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, discipline and productivity.
- Ensure adequate PPE is available and correctly used by all employees.
- Coordinate the safe delivery, handling, storage and movement of scaffolding materials and equipment.
- Monitor material and equipment usage and report shortages, damage or losses.
- Monitor progress against planned work and report delays or site constraints to management.
- Liaise with clients, contractors and other site personnel where required.
- Maintain accurate site records, inspection documentation, daily reports and other required paperwork.
- Maintain good housekeeping and ensure work areas remain safe and organized.
- Ensure all work is completed within required quality, safety and project timeframes.
- Perform any other reasonable duties related to the position as instructed by management.
Experience & Qualification
Minimum Qualifications- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Recognized scaffolding qualification or competency certificate.
- Working at Heights training/certificate.
- Fall Protection training, where applicable.
- Occupational Health and Safety training.
- First Aid training will be an advantage.
- Valid driver's license will be an advantage.
Minimum Experience- National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent
- Completion of the SAQA Unit Standard 263224 “Supervise the erection and dismantling of access scaffolding” NQF Level 4
- Valid scaffolding supervisor certificate
- Working at heights accreditation
- Minimum 5 years' practical experience in the scaffolding industry.
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a supervisory or senior scaffolding role.
- Proven experience supervising scaffolding teams on construction, industrial, mining or similar sites.
- Strong practical experience in scaffolding erection, alteration and dismantling.
- Experience with scaffolding inspections, tagging and handover procedures.
- Experience with manpower planning, material control and daily work allocation.
- Experience conducting toolbox talks and implementing safety procedures.
- Ability to read and understand scaffolding drawings, specifications and work instructions.
- Knowledge and understanding of scaffold safety standards, regulations and load calculations.

Safety ResponsibilityThe Scaffolding Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a strong safety culture and ensuring that all scaffolding activities under his supervision are performed in accordance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety requirements, approved procedures and company standards. No unsafe scaffolding work is to be permitted, and identified hazards must be reported and addressed immediately.
