The Scaffolding Erector is responsible for the safe and efficient erection, alteration, dismantling and maintenance of scaffolding structures in accordance with approved procedures, safety requirements, manufacturer specifications and site standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding structures safely and efficiently.
- Inspect scaffolding components before use and report any damaged, defective or unsuitable equipment.
- Ensure scaffolding is erected according to approved designs, specifications and required safety standards.
- Install and maintain working platforms, guardrails, toe boards, access ladders and other required safety components.
- Ensure scaffolding is properly secured, braced and stable before it is handed over for use.
- Follow all site-specific safety rules, procedures and instructions.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and ensure all safety equipment is in good condition.
- Conduct pre-use inspections of tools, equipment and scaffolding components.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area.
- Assist with the loading, unloading, carrying and positioning of scaffolding materials.
- Work safely at heights and use fall-protection equipment as required.
- Follow instructions from the Supervisor/Foreman and work effectively as part of a team.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, damaged equipment or hazards immediately.
- Ensure scaffolding is not altered or used outside its approved purpose.
- Assist with tagging, inspection and handover procedures where required.
- Maintain good housekeeping throughout the work area.
- Take reasonable care of company property, tools, equipment and materials.
- Comply with all applicable Occupational Health and Safety requirements and company policies.
- Perform any other reasonable duties related to the position as instructed by management.
Experience & Qualification Minimum Requirements- National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent
- CETA accredited Scaffold Erector Certificate
- Practical training aligned with SAQA Unit Standard 263245 “Erect, use and dismantle access scaffolding” NQF Level 3
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in related field
- Must have practical scaffolding erection experience in industrial or construction environments
- Ability to read and interpret scaffold drawings and site plans
- Physically fit and comfortable working at heights
- Valid working at heights certification
