THE OPPORTUNITY
An exciting opportunity is available for a hands-on and hardworking Landscape Installation Assistant to join the development team of a prestigious new 5-star luxury resort currently under construction in Zanzibar.
This is an opportunity to become involved at an important stage of the resort's development, contributing directly to the establishment of its landscaped gardens, planting areas, irrigation infrastructure and outdoor environments.
The successful candidate will work as part of the landscaping and horticultural team, supporting the installation, establishment and ongoing development of high-quality landscaped areas expected within an international luxury resort environment.
This position would suit a practical horticultural or agricultural professional who enjoys working outdoors, is comfortable with physical work and takes pride in achieving high standards.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Landscape Installation Assistant will provide practical support across the resort's landscape installation and horticultural development activities.
The role will require someone who is prepared to get their hands dirty, work alongside contractors and landscaping teams, and contribute directly to the successful establishment of the resort's gardens and outdoor spaces.
You will be involved in the practical implementation of landscape plans, planting programmes and irrigation systems, helping transform the developing resort into a mature, visually impressive tropical environment.
This is not a purely administrative or supervisory position. The successful candidate must be genuinely hands-on, willing to undertake physical work and capable of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary development team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will assist with:
Supporting the installation and establishment of landscaped areas throughout the resort.
Preparing planting areas, garden beds and soil for new landscaping.
Planting trees, shrubs, palms, ornamental plants, groundcovers and other landscape specimens.
Assisting with transplanting, propagation and establishment of plants where required.
Supporting the landscaping team with soil preparation, composting, mulching and fertilisation.
Assisting with the installation, maintenance and testing of basic irrigation systems.
Identifying irrigation leaks, blockages and basic operational problems and reporting these appropriately.
Operating and maintaining basic landscaping tools and equipment.
Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of lawns, planting beds and landscaped areas.
Supporting contractors and specialist landscaping teams during installation activities.
Ensuring planted areas are properly watered and maintained during establishment.
Assisting with plant maintenance, pruning, trimming, weeding and general garden care.
Monitoring plant health and reporting signs of disease, pest activity, nutrient deficiencies or plant stress.
Assisting with the movement and positioning of plants, soil, compost, mulch and landscaping materials.
Maintaining clean, safe and organised work areas.
Following health, safety and environmental procedures at all times.
Taking care of landscaping tools, equipment and materials.
Supporting the senior landscaping/horticultural team with additional practical requirements as the project progresses.
Working collaboratively with construction, engineering, irrigation and other project teams where landscaping activities interface with their work.
Maintaining the high standards expected of a luxury international resort development.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential
The successful candidate should have:
A minimum Diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture or a related discipline.
Reasonable practical experience in horticulture, landscaping, agriculture, nursery operations, estate maintenance or a related environment.
A strong practical and hands-on approach to work.
The physical ability and willingness to work outdoors and undertake manual tasks.
A genuine interest in plants, horticulture and landscape development.
Good basic knowledge of plant establishment and maintenance.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Good attention to detail.
A strong work ethic and dependable attitude.
Ability to follow instructions, procedures and technical guidance.
Willingness to work in a developing construction-site environment.
A proactive approach to identifying and resolving basic practical problems.
Advantageous
Preference may be given to candidates with:
Basic knowledge of irrigation systems.
Practical irrigation installation or maintenance experience.
Basic mechanical knowledge.
Experience using landscaping machinery and equipment.
Experience within a resort, hotel, lodge, estate, botanical garden, commercial nursery or large-scale landscaping operation.
Experience working on a new-build landscaping or property development project.
Knowledge of tropical or coastal horticulture.
Experience working with contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
International hospitality, resort or luxury property experience.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
This position is ideally suited to someone who describes themselves as a practical horticulturalist rather than someone who simply enjoys gardening.
You should be comfortable working outdoors, lifting and moving materials, preparing planting areas, handling plants and equipment, assisting with irrigation work and spending the majority of your working day actively involved in the landscape installation process.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Hands-on capability
You are prepared to physically participate in the work rather than simply supervise others.
Technical curiosity
You understand horticulture and are interested in developing your knowledge of irrigation, landscaping systems and mechanical equipment.
Attention to detail
In a luxury resort environment, planting quality, presentation and landscape standards matter.
Reliability
Construction and landscape installation programmes are highly dependent on team members completing their responsibilities consistently and on time.
Adaptability
The project environment will evolve as construction progresses, requiring someone who can adapt to changing priorities and site requirements.
Teamwork
You will work alongside horticultural, landscaping, irrigation, construction, engineering and resort development teams.
Pride in workmanship
You should take satisfaction in seeing a landscape develop from an installation site into a finished luxury resort environment.
WHY THIS IS AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY
This is an opportunity to become involved with a new-generation luxury resort development in Zanzibar, rather than joining an established property with an already mature landscape.
The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to contribute during the landscape installation and establishment phase, helping create the outdoor environment that guests will ultimately experience.
The wider development platform has an established international hospitality footprint and experience with luxury hotel and resort developments across multiple destinations. Its public portfolio includes luxury properties and new-build developments, including projects in Zanzibar and other international markets.
For a horticultural professional, this represents an opportunity to gain valuable exposure to the development and establishment of a large-scale luxury hospitality landscape in a distinctive tropical island environment.

The successful candidate will receive:
Competitive market-related salary paid Net in US$
Accommodation provided
Full Ex- Pat Benefits and allowances covered by the company
