PBX Assistant Technician

About the Role

Our client, a leading provider in the ICT and telecommunications sector, is seeking a motivated PBX Assistant Technician to join their technical team. In this role, you will support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of advanced voice and data systems to ensure seamless connectivity for commercial clients. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior technical professional to grow their expertise in VoIP, networking, and PBX infrastructure within a dynamic field environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, programming, and maintenance of IP PBX and VoIP networks.
• Support the configuration of SIP Trunks, VoIP, ADSL, Wi-Fi, 3G/LTE routers, and wireless/microwave connectivity.
• Help configure voice management features including voicemail, auto-attendant, ring plans, and Least Cost Routing (LCR).
• Conduct fault finding and troubleshooting on network infrastructure, voice/data integration, and physical cabling.
• Perform pre-installation site surveys and assist with voice and data cabling installations.
• Execute basic diagnostic tests and hardware setups on customer premises.
• Assist with complete client handovers upon finishing system installations.
• Manage and maintain all allocated boot stock and tools.
• Maintain accurate communication with the Service Coordinator regarding job statuses and schedules.
• Complete all required job cards and administrative paperwork accurately and on time.
• Adhere strictly to Health & Safety (H&S) regulations and Standard Operating Procedures.

Requirements

• Minimum Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• Valid South African Driver’s License (essential).
• 1–3 years of hands-on experience in PBX, telecommunications, or voice/data cabling infrastructure.
• Prior experience with Yeastar and Samsung PBX systems is highly preferred.
• Basic understanding of networking, SIP, VoIP, network hardware, and structural cabling.
• Previous experience in the Office Automation or ICT industry is desirable.
• Strong verbal communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
• A methodical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
