An opportunity is available for an experienced Guarding Operational Manager to take responsibility for the effective management, coordination and administration of high-volume guarding operations in the private security environment.
- This is a hands-on operational management appointment suited to a proven security professional who can hit the ground running, take ownership of operational performance and maintain high standards of discipline, compliance, client service, deployment accuracy and workforce management.
- The successful candidate will need to be highly organised, detail-orientated, dependable and operationally strong, with the ability to manage multiple sites, personnel, schedules and client requirements simultaneously.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Overall management and coordination of day-to-day guarding operations.
- Manage and monitor the deployment of security officers across multiple sites and client contracts.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels, shift coverage, relief arrangements and operational continuity.
- Manage absenteeism, leave, replacements, disciplinary matters and operational staff performance.
- Conduct regular site inspections and ensure that security officers comply with company, client and industry requirements.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, post instructions, occurrence books, registers and other operational documentation.
- Ensure that security personnel are correctly deployed, appropriately trained and suitably equipped for their assigned duties.
- Maintain operational discipline and enforce company policies, procedures and standards.
- Manage operational supervisors, site supervisors, team leaders and security officers.
- Provide leadership, guidance, coaching and performance management to operational teams.
- Liaise professionally with clients regarding operational requirements, service delivery, incidents and complaints.
- Maintain strong client relationships and ensure contractual service standards are consistently achieved.
- Investigate operational incidents, complaints, security breaches and service failures and implement appropriate corrective action.
- Ensure accurate and timeous completion of incident reports, operational reports and management information.
- Monitor overtime, additional shifts, relief requirements and other operational cost drivers.
- Assist with workforce planning, recruitment, induction and operational allocation of security personnel.
- Ensure all relevant personnel documentation, registrations, training records and licences are maintained and current.
- Monitor compliance with applicable private security industry legislation, regulations, company procedures and client-specific requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding client information, security procedures, personnel matters and company information.
- Identify operational risks and implement practical measures to improve security, service delivery and operational efficiency.
- Assist senior management with operational planning, reporting, audits and performance reviews.
- Respond effectively to urgent operational requirements and incidents outside normal working hours when required.
- Maintain accurate operational records and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
- Promote professionalism, accountability, discipline and service excellence throughout the guarding operation.
- Perform other reasonable operational and management duties associated with the position.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE:
- Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Relevant tertiary qualification, security management qualification, supervisory/management qualification, or comparable industry certification will be advantageous.
- Extensive and demonstrable experience in Guarding Operational Management is essential.
- Preference will be given to candidates who are currently or were recently actively employed in a Guarding Operations Manager / Security Operations Manager / Senior Security Operations role.
- Proven experience managing high-volume guarding operations and multiple security sites.
- Strong experience managing large numbers of security officers and operational personnel.
- Previous experience managing supervisors, site managers, team leaders or similar operational structures.
- Strong knowledge of security guarding operations, deployment practices and site management.
- Working knowledge of applicable private security industry requirements and PSiRA compliance. PSiRA registration is required for persons rendering regulated security services in South Africa.
- A valid PSiRA registration appropriate to the candidate''s role and responsibilities.
- PSiRA Grade A / senior-level registration or equivalent experience will be highly advantageous.
- Valid driver''s licence.
- Firearm competency / relevant firearm licence will be advantageous where applicable to the operational requirements of the position and any duties requiring the lawful possession or use of a firearm.
- Firearm use in the security environment is subject to the applicable competency, licensing and regulatory requirements.
- Strong knowledge of operational reporting, incident management and security documentation.
- Computer literacy, including MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel.
- Previous experience working in a high-pressure, high-volume operational environment.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
