POSITION INFO:
My client is looking for a driven and experienced Debtors Controller to join the Finance team.

Reporting to the Debtors Manager, you will be responsible for managing customer accounts, driving collections, resolving account queries and ensuring accurate and timely debtor reconciliations.

The ideal candidate is assertive, highly organised and thrives in a high-pressure environment where urgency and results matter.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and maintain accurate customer reconciliations.
Allocate customer payments accurately and timeously.
Circulate customer statements on a daily basis.
Monitor customer balances and proactively follow up on overdue accounts.
Drive collections and reduce outstanding debtor balances and DSO.
Resolve customer claims and ensure relevant credit notes are processed within agreed timeframes.
Escalate problem accounts and recommend appropriate collection actions.
Conduct credit checks and assist with credit limit approvals.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer credit files.
Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and procedures.
Liaise closely with the Sales team regarding customer account queries, payment terms and disputes.
Prepare weekly debtor age analysis and collection flagging reports.
Identify discrepancies and proactively resolve issues contributing to recurring billing or collection problems.
Maintain professional and effective communication with customers, both telephonically and in writing.

Job Experience and Skills Required:

Post-Matric tertiary qualification is essential.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Credit Management is highly advantageous.
Minimum 3 years’ hands-on experience in a dedicated Debtors Control or Debt Collection role.
Experience managing high-volume debtor books in a fast-paced environment.
Proven track record of reducing overdue balances and improving DSO.
Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, sorting, filtering and complex reconciliations.
