SUMMARY:
We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper & Payroll Support specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate should be able to assist with the full bookkeeping function, be able to manage statutory compliance, and support payroll processing — all within a fast-paced, cloud-based environment. The ideal person takes pride in accurate work, manages their own time well, and is always looking for smarter ways to do things.

Contract duration of 12 months

POSITION INFO:
Bookkeeping & Accounting

Assist with full bookkeeping functions up to trial balance level, including journals, invoices, receipts, bank transactions, and general ledger entries.
Maintain accurate records on Xero and other cloud-based accounting platforms.
Assist with monthly bank reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.
Manage and reconcile debtor, creditor, and balance sheet accounts.
Assist with month-end close procedures, including reconciliations and account adjustments.

Payroll & Employer Compliance

Process and administer monthly payroll, including capturing hours, leave, deductions, and allowances.
Prepare and submit monthly EMP201 returns (PAYE, UIF, SDL).
Prepare UIF and COIDA submission files and support related statutory applications.
Reconcile payroll data, resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate payroll records.
Liaise with clients to collect and confirm weekly and monthly payroll data.

Tax & Statutory Compliance

Assist with company secretarial and compliance-related administrative tasks.
Prepare, reconcile, and submit monthly or bi-monthly VAT returns.
Monitor SARS eFiling correspondence, notices, and compliance matters.
Assist with provisional tax (IRP6) and income tax compliance.
Support VAT, EMP, UIF, and COIDA.

Experience & Qualifications

Minimum 5 years' bookkeeping experience, ideally across multiple clients.
Solid understanding of bookkeeping principles, VAT legislation, and statutory compliance.
Hands-on experience with Xero; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Bookkeeping.
