Technical Assistant – Northern Suburbs, Cape Town
Food Manufacturing | Technical / Quality / Food Safety
Full-time | On-site

Our client, a well-established gourmet food manufacturing business based in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Technical Assistant to support the Technical Manager across all food safety, quality, and technical functions within the factory environment.

This role plays a key part in maintaining food safety systems, supporting audits, managing documentation, and ensuring compliance with statutory, customer, and certification requirements.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in maintaining and reviewing the FSSC 22000 Food Safety Management System
Support end-to-end food safety and quality management across the production lifecycle
Assist with customer requirements, product specifications, and documentation control
Support factory trials in line with customer and best-practice standards
Participate in raw material management, including sensory evaluations
Assist with investigation of customer complaints and rejections using root cause analysis
Support audits and regulatory inspections alongside the Technical Manager
Assist in maintaining supplier quality assurance systems
Support training and development initiatives within the factory
Ensure all manufactured products have the required technical documentation in place

Key Requirements:

BTech or BSc in Food Technology or Food Science
ISO 22000 Internal Auditor certification (Lead Auditor advantageous)
Training in HACCP, PRPs, and Food Safety systems
2–3 years’ experience in a similar technical or food safety role (advantageous)
Good understanding of microbiology and food manufacturing processes
Experience in the meat industry would be advantageous
Strong attention to detail and documentation control skills
Good communication, teamwork, and time management abilities
Training in OHS and firefighting would be advantageous
