SUMMARY:
Job Title: SENIOR DIESEL MECHANIC (Heavy Commercial Trucks & Trailers)
Location: Rosslyn, Akasia

Our Client who a specialized transport and logistics depot providing line haul, local distribution, and cross-border freight services are seeking a highly skilled, trade-tested Senior Diesel Mechanic with a minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience to join our fleet maintenance team in Rosslyn. The successful candidate will possess extensive, hands-on expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and servicing heavy commercial trucks and trailers.

Required qualification and working knowledge:

• Qualified Diesel Mechanic: Must hold a recognized Trade Test Certificate (e.g., merSETA, Olifantsfontein, or QCTO).
• Driver's License: Valid driver’s licence (Code 14 / EC preferred).

• Post-Qualification: Minimum of 10+ years’ experience working as a qualified mechanic after passing the trade test.
• Commercial Vehicle Expertise: Strong, proven track record servicing heavy commercial trucks and long-haul fleets.
• Brand Specialisation: Experience working on IVECO and Fuso trucks is highly advantageous; experience with other major commercial truck brands will also be highly valued.
• Technical Skills:
• Extensive hands-on experience with major components (engines, gearboxes, air systems).
• Strong competencies in auto-electrical fault-finding and repair (highly advantageous).
• Specialist expertise in trailer maintenance and air suspension systems.

• Ability to work independently under pressure and manage breakdown stress.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Willingness to work overtime and participate in the workshop standby roster.

POSITION INFO:
Duties & Responsibilities:

• Fleet Maintenance & Repairs: Perform extensive hands-on repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy commercial trucks, engines, gearboxes, brakes, air systems, and suspensions.
• Trailer & Axle Servicing: Execute comprehensive maintenance and repairs on trailer components, specializing in air suspension axles.
• Diagnostics & Fault Finding: Accurately troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, utilizing diagnostic equipment to minimize fleet downtime.
• Auto-Electrical Work: Identify and repair auto-electrical faults across vehicles and trailers.
• Breakdown Response: Attend to roadside breakdowns in the surrounding regions and perform efficient field service repairs when required.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure all workshop and field repairs meet strict safety, operational, and regulatory standards

• Market-related basic salary (commensurate with 10+ years of senior experience).
• Standby allowance for rostered after-hours and weekend breakdown support.
• Overtime pay for hours worked outside of standard shift times.
