The Project Manager is responsible for providing smooth procurement administration and financial management of projects and grants within a diverse multi-disciplinary research team. Building and managing project teams, reporting to the project sponsor and ensuring quality control throughout project life cycles are central to this position.

Furthermore, the role is responsible for operations, grants and financial analyses of the unit, also advising to support the organization to identify business opportunities and shaping strategies within the business with solid insights and actionable recommendations. To work collectively with cross-functional teams and support the organization                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in business management or a financial related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in business financial management (Including preparing budgets, account management and implementation)
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (excellent proficiency in Excel) and working knowledge of SAP 
  • Valid driver's licence

  • Strong analytical skills with the creative problem-solving approaches and an eye for continuous process improvement
  • Excellent verbal skills and written communications skills (ability to articulate reports)

Advantageous:  

  • In-depth knowledge of forecasting and budget controls within the academic research environment will be advantageous
  • Good understanding of research methods and clinical research support will be advantageous

Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day financial administration and management of all grants assigned to the research site
  • Interpreting financial information to ensure that business operates within budget requirements
  • Ensuring good governance principles are adhered to
  • Supporting alignment of activities and objectives across business requirements
  • Ensure that the business unit has the adequate and suitable resources to complete its activities (e.g. people, material, equipment etc.)
  • Provision of assistance to project leaders in preparing budget applications, in line with the Foundation's Financial Mandate
  • Preparation of financial reports in line with funder requirements
  • Preparation of internal reports for financial analysis
  • Gather, analyse and interpret external and internal business data and create relevant reports
  • Manage projects assets
  • Monitor monthly expenditure allocations in SAP
  • Co-ordinate and manage weekly/ monthly petty cash process
  • Prepare monthly budget vs expense reports for internal review
  • Salary allocation management - project current month allocations for assigned projects
  • Organize and coordinate operations in ways that ensure maximum productivity and growth
  • Supervise the work of employees and provide feedback and counsel to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Maintain relationships with partners/vendors/suppliers
