Maintenance Fitter

SUMMARY:
A client based in Cape Town is looking for a Maintenance Fitter with Food industry or Plastic industry experience to join their team

POSITION INFO:
Work Experience Requirements
At least 3 years working experience in a FMCG (Food) or Plastic manufacturing environment doing mechanical maintenance and fault finding on machines, including exposure to basic hydraulics and pneumatics.
 
Education Requirements

• Matric
• Trade tested N3 fitter or fitter-and-turner with at least 5 years continuous experience in plant maintenance and fault finding

• Good verbal communication skills
• Ability to work with limited supervision

• Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required.

• Limit machine downtime in brush filling, PU plant and other.
• Improve machine performance.
• Can be utilized in plastic moulding maintenance department.
• Effective and quick fault finding and rectification
• Questioning faults and proposing improvements
• Doing ongoing machine inspections to timeously identify faults.
• Identify and communicate areas of improvement specific to operating efficiencies and safety.
• Performing assigned or identified maintenance tasks.
• Thorough completion of job cards.
• Actioning assigned scheduled maintenance and proposing scheduled maintenance improvements
• Success of new equipment procurement and installation as well as equipment modifications.
• Responsible for technical tasks in new equipment installations.
• Identify, obtain approval and do equipment modifications and major/minor repairs.
• Maintenance spares availability
• Liaise with store man and maintenance supervisor, with regard to spares stock keeping improvements
• Improve and maintain good housekeeping standards.
• Perform regular housekeeping checks on machines and workshop and correct findings
• Improve on identified gaps
• Support management systems like Pragma, ISO9001, NOSA, WCM etc.
• Proper completion of job cards.
• Adhering to works and safety procedures.
• Assist in developing procedures in area of work.
• Make use of setting cards
• Coaching less experienced artisans.
• Inspect work of less experienced maintenance personnel and mechanics during and after performing it.  Give advice.  Be approachable to colleagues requiring relevant information and training.
• Plant safety and safe working
• Adhere to safety legislation and safe working practices. 
• Assist in developing safe working procedures and comply with it.
• Machine change overs and setup
• Assist mechanics and/or take over machine change over and setups as well as product programming.  Make use of setting cards and correct mistakes on them using proper procedure.
• Availability
• Must be able to work shifts as a mechanic when so required.  Must be able to work overtime when so required even on call-out.
