Job Description

The Food and Beverage Manager oversees all aspects of food and beverage operations within the establishment located in Zanzibar South and Central, Tanzania. The role requires ensuring the highest standards of service, quality, hygiene and customer satisfaction in line with company policies and industry regulations. The manager is responsible for leading the team, managing budgets, and driving revenue growth while maintaining cost controls. Looking for someone that has prior resort experience. must have high end luxury 5 star experience.

Job Duties

• Plan, organise and control food and beverage operations including restaurants, bars, room service and banqueting functions.
• Develop and implement operational policies, procedures and standards to ensure quality and consistency of service.
• Recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff to deliver excellent customer service and maintain high levels of productivity.
• Monitor and manage budgets, control costs, and maximise profitability through effective financial management.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety and hygiene regulations in food preparation and service areas.
• Maintain strong customer relations by responding promptly to feedback and resolving issues efficiently.
• Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely procurement of quality products at competitive prices.
• Analyse sales trends and customer preferences to develop innovative menus and promotions that enhance revenue.
• Prepare regular reports on operational performance, financial results and team development to senior management.
• Lead by example, fostering a positive work environment and promoting teamwork across all food and beverage departments.

Required Qualifications

• Recognised qualification in Hospitality Management, Food and Beverage Management or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in a managerial role within food and beverage operations, preferably in a hotel, resort or similar hospitality setting.
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation relevant to food service.
• Proven ability to manage budgets and financial performance.
• Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

Education

• Minimum of a Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, or related field.

Experience

• At least five years of progressive experience in food and beverage management.
• Experience working in multicultural and diverse environments is highly desirable.
• Previous exposure to supervisory responsibility for large teams in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Knowledge and Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage operations, including service standards and quality control.
• Strong financial acumen with ability to analyse and interpret operational data.
• Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
• Proficiency in using management software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
• Outstanding customer service orientation and problem-solving skills.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Swahili or other local languages is advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in Hospitality or Business Management.
• Certification in Food Safety or HACCP.
• Experience in the travel and tourism sector within East Africa or similar regions.
• Familiarity with sustainable and responsible tourism practises.

Working Conditions

• The role requires full-time hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as necessary to meet operational demands.
• Work takes place primarily in hospitality settings such as restaurants, bars and banquet halls.
• The position involves standing for extended periods and managing a dynamic team in a busy environment.
• Occasional travel within Zanzibar and the surrounding region may be required.
