Factory Shift Supervisor

SUMMARY:
Manufacturing group are seeking a Factory Shift Supervisor for their operation in Mobeni.  Applicants will need 10+ years experience in a similar role.

POSITION INFO:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Shift Management

1. Oversee all production activities during the assigned shift to ensure output meets daily production targets.
2. Plan and allocate work to machine operators, packers, and support staff.
3. Conduct shift start meetings to communicate priorities, safety instructions, and quality expectations.

1. Monitor machine performance, workflow, and line speed to ensure maximum efficiency.
2. Identify bottlenecks or production interruptions and implement corrective actions.
3. Ensure minimal downtime by coordinating timely changeovers, material availability, and technical support.

1. Ensure products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.
2. Perform in-process quality checks and verify that operators follow QC procedures.
3. Address product defects or deviations immediately and escalate when necessary.
4. Ensure compliance with relevant South African packaging standards (e.g., SANS) and food safety systems (e.g., HACCP/FSSC 22000), where applicable.

1. Enforce adherence to Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) requirements.
2. Ensure safe use of machinery, PPE compliance, lockout/tagout, and housekeeping standards.
3. Report any safety hazards, near-misses, and incidents; complete incident documentation and support investigations.

1. Lead, motivate, and supervise shift staff to maintain high levels of productivity and morale.
2. Train new employees on machinery, production procedures, and safety rules.
3. Conduct performance evaluations and address disciplinary issues when necessary.

1. Ensure the correct raw materials, packaging, and consumables are available for production.
2. Monitor usage and minimize waste.
3. Communicate shortages, procurement needs, or inefficiencies to planning and procurement teams.

1. Complete shift production reports, downtime logs, scrap and yield records, and any required compliance documentation.
2. Communicate shift handover information clearly to the incoming supervisor.
3. Attend production meetings and provide accurate shift performance updates.

1. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
2. Participate in root cause analysis and improvement projects.
3. Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Kaizen initiatives where in practice.

1. Grade 12
2. Have a tertiary qualification
3. Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience as a factory shift supervisor in the packaging industry
4. Must be able to work shifts according to company shift patterns
5. Must have leadership and supervisory skills
6. Must be able to oversee an entire shift of workers, ensuring that they are at their designated work stations
7. Must be able to multitask and plan their shift
