An opportunity exists for an experienced Trade Tested Fitter to join a well-established, performance-driven manufacturing operation based in Pietermaritzburg.

This role is suited to a hands-on artisan who thrives in a high-output production environment where plant reliability, preventative maintenance, and minimal downtime are critical to operational success.

This role is ideal for a proactive artisan who takes pride in precision workmanship, plant uptime, and long-term equipment reliability. Medium-level Fitters looking to grow into senior responsibility are welcome to apply, as are seasoned Senior Fitters seeking a stable, performance-focused environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform mechanical maintenance within a continuous manufacturing plant environment
• Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, testing, and inspections on mechanical systems
• Work on gears, motors, bearings, shafts, couplings, pumps, drives, and associated machine components
• Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance to reduce breakdowns and downtime
• Execute breakdown repairs under production pressure
• Inspect, repair, replace, and install mechanical equipment and components
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
• Support plant reliability and equipment optimisation initiatives
• Participate in shutdown planning and execution
• Ensure compliance with safety, ISO, and environmental standards
• Work shifts, weekend rotations, and standby duties as required
• Collaborate effectively with production, electrical, and supervisory teams 

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Trade Tested Fitter (Red Seal essential)
• N4 – N6 in Mechanical Engineering (adv)
• Minimum 3–5 years post-trade experience within a manufacturing / plant maintenance environment
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic capability
• Experience in preventative and predictive maintenance systems
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards (adv)
• Physically fit and capable of working in an industrial plant environment
• Good communication skills across all levels
• Emotionally stable, responsible, and able to work under pressure
• Driver’s licence with reliable transport
• Computer literate (basic reporting & maintenance systems)
• Clear criminal record + Traceable & contactable references
• Pietermaritzburg residency preferred (or willingness to relocate at own cost)
