External Sales Consultant

SUMMARY:
External Sales Consultant – Food Ingredients - Location: Rivonia, Johannesburg

POSITION INFO:

We are seeking a driven and results-oriented External Sales Consultant to join a dynamic and technically focused sales environment within the food ingredients and chemical industry. This role suits a self-motivated individual with strong relationship-building skills and a passion for technical, solution-based sales.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, manage, and grow existing customer accounts
• Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and business partners
• Conduct general sales, marketing, and customer service activities
• Compile accurate sales reports, costings, pricing, and market intelligence
• Assist the Sales Manager with annual sales budget planning
• Provide technical support during lab-scale testing and production trials
• Maintain a strong presence through regular face-to-face customer engagement

Minimum Requirements – Qualifications & Knowledge

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Formal qualification or training in Food Science, Food Technology, or a Chemical-related field
• Sales and/or marketing training (advantageous)
• Strong financial and business acumen with a value-add mindset
• Bilingual in English and Afrikaans
• Own reliable transport (essential)

Experience

• 2–5 years’ experience in external sales, preferably within food ingredients, chemicals, or related tangible products
• Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets
• Experience in market research, new business development, and client servicing
• Strong hunter mentality with a target-driven approach
• Comfortable and effective in face-to-face customer interactions

Technical & Professional Skills

• Experience in technical sales within the food and/or chemical industry
• Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong planning, organisational ability, and attention to detail
• High level of accuracy, professionalism, and accountability
• Ability to build and maintain long-term customer relationships

Remuneration

• R30 000 CTC per month, dependent on skills and experience
• Package includes basic salary and medical aid (Discovery)
