Driver Trainer

SUMMARY:
We're looking for a dynamic Driver Trainer to lead the charge in shaping safer, smarter driving across our Transport Department in the Gauteng region. You'll plan and deliver impactful training, evaluate driver performance, and champion cost-saving behaviors on the road. With a sharp eye for risk and a passion for safety, you'll make every mile count on-site and beyond!

Job Summary
Coordinate and plan the training and job evaluation of Drivers to improve driver behavior and reduce overall transport expenses. Evaluate and eliminate risk at customers sites through onsite training.

Responsibilities

Evaluation of New Driver Candidates

• Assess all new potential Drivers for WastePlan

• Document and report on the progress of drivers being trained
• Train new Drivers on correct completion of the electronic vehicle and trailer inspection sheet
• Train new Drivers on the correct use of the vehicle tracking system
• Train Drivers on accident and damage procedures
• Train Drivers before using specialized vehicles
• Train Drivers on the manifest and weighbridge procedures

• Daily supervision of assigned Drivers and monitors to ensure proper and consistent performance of duties
• Conduct safe driving and safe working methods and procedures and training programs as specifically required
• Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of Drivers and Runners
• Counsel and recommend disciplinary actions
• Prepare and maintain Driver training records
• Conduct field investigations of accidents and damage and action training requirements based on your findings
• Analyze transportation data to identify Drivers that require training

• Ensure that all staff who you are responsible for are informed about all legislation, rules and responsibilities as prescribed in the company’s COVID-19 SOP
• Handle injuries on duty and report them as prescribed by IOD policy
• Action the corrective / prevention procedure as required
• Ensure that all incidents and accidents are investigated and reported, and that preventative action is taken to avoid further incidents or accidents
• Conduct site visits and build SOP’s for training

• Matric / grade 12
• Minimum 3 years working experience in a similar role, or show significant potential for the position
• Valid driver’s license for the level at which you will be teaching
• Proven experience as a driving instructor
• Valid driving instructor's license or certification
• Clear driving record
• Must be well presented, professional and have excellent communication skills
