Cost & Management Accountant – Mining

SUMMARY:
A well-established organisation within the mining sector is seeking a strong Cost and Management Accountant to join its finance team.

POSITION INFO:
This role is suited to a hands-on finance professional who enjoys operational exposure, cost analysis, and working closely with site-based stakeholders in a dynamic environment.

Our client is a stable and reputable organisation operating within the mining and metals space. Based at Head Office in Centurion, the Cost and Management Accountant will take ownership of the management accounting and cost control function for two operational mines.

The role requires travel to mine sites at least once per month, providing direct exposure to operations and enabling meaningful financial insight, cost optimisation, and decision support.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and operational teams to ensure accurate reporting, effective budgeting, and strong financial governance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and review monthly management accounts for mining operations
• Perform detailed cost analysis, variance analysis, and operational reporting
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cost control processes for mine sites
• Oversee month-end close processes, including journals, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
• Monitor and analyse mining and operational costs to support profitability
• Provide financial insights and decision support to operational and senior management
• Liaise with internal and external auditors
• Manage statutory submissions, including VAT and payroll-related returns
• Utilise ERP systems effectively and drive continuous process improvements
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and governance requirements

• Education:
  
  • BCom in Accounting / Cost & Management Accounting (essential)
  • Completed articles will be advantageous
• Experience:
  
  • Minimum of 4–6 years’ experience in cost and/or management accounting
  • Experience within Mining, Manufacturing, Engineering, or Construction industries (preferred)
  • Operational or site-based finance exposure will be highly advantageous
• Skills:
  
  • Strong cost accounting, budgeting, and forecasting capability
  • ERP system experience is essential (Sage experience advantageous)
  • Advanced Excel and reporting skills
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical ability
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines
  • Willingness to travel to mine sites at least once per month
