Job Purpose

The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to customers while delivering exceptional customer service. The role involves maintaining a clean and organized bar area, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, handling customer payments, and creating a welcoming atmosphere that enhances the guest experience.

Bar Manager / Restaurant Manager / General Manager

Key Responsibilities

Beverage Preparation & Service

• Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes and standards.

• Recommend drinks and menu items based on customer preferences.

• Mix cocktails, pour beers, and serve wines efficiently and accurately.

• Ensure all beverages are presented professionally.

• Verify customer age and comply with liquor licensing laws and regulations.

Customer Service

• Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.

• Build positive relationships with guests and provide an enjoyable experience.

• Address customer inquiries, complaints, and special requests promptly.

• Maintain high standards of hospitality at all times.

Bar Operations

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area, equipment, and workstations.

• Restock bar inventory including spirits, wines, beers, mixers, garnishes, and supplies.

• Monitor stock levels and report shortages to management.

• Assist with stock counts and inventory control procedures.

Cash Handling & Administration

• Process customer orders accurately using the Point of Sale (POS) system.

• Handle cash, card transactions, and receipts responsibly.

• Reconcile sales and cash drawers at the end of shifts.

• Follow company procedures for financial controls and record keeping.

Compliance & Safety

• Adhere to health, safety, hygiene, and alcohol service regulations.

• Ensure responsible service of alcohol and refuse service when required.

• Report accidents, incidents, or safety concerns immediately.

• Maintain a safe and secure working environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate.

• Previous experience as a Bartender, Waiter, or in a hospitality environment.

• Knowledge of cocktails, wines, beers, and beverage service.

• Familiarity with POS systems and cash handling procedures.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays.
