POSITION INFO:

Accounts Payable / Junior Bookkeeper

Location: Cape Town CBD
Industry: Retail (non-negotiable)
A fast-paced retail business based in Cape Town CBD is looking for a hands-on Accounts Payable / Junior Bookkeeper to join their finance team. This role is ideal for someone early in their finance career who already understands retail finance realities and wants to grow their technical exposure.

What you’ll be doing

Accounts Payable & Transaction Processing

Processing supplier invoices accurately and timeously
Preparing and loading supplier payments
Capturing journals and ensuring correct GL coding
Managing intercompany invoices and supporting documentation
Processing expense claims where required

Reconciliations & Controls

Performing regular bank reconciliations
Reconciling creditors, VAT and other control accounts
Investigating and resolving reconciling items

Finance Support

Assisting with month-end close activities
Maintaining accurate financial records and audit trails
Responding to internal finance queries and supporting senior finance staff

What we’re looking for

Non-negotiable

Previous retail industry experience (AP / finance exposure within retail)
Experience in an Accounts Payable, Junior Bookkeeper or Finance Assistant role

Essential skills & experience

Solid understanding of bookkeeping principles (debits & credits)
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Confident working with numbers and financial data
Good Excel skills
Experience using accounting systems (Pastel, Sage, Xero, SAP, QuickBooks or similar)

Qualifications

Studying towards or recently completed a qualification in Accounting / Finance / Bookkeeping (ICB, AAT, Diploma, similar)
Matric with HG Mathematics
