SUMMARY:
Telescopic Handler Operator
A leading organisation within the mining and project services sector is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Telescopic Handler Operator to join its operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of telescopic handling equipment for the movement, loading, unloading, and placement of materials across mining, construction, and industrial project environments.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Valid Telescopic Handler / Telehandler Operator Certification.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Minimum 3 years' experience operating telescopic handlers in mining, construction, industrial, or heavy engineering environments.
- Knowledge of lifting operations, load charts, and safe lifting practices.
- Ability to perform daily inspections and identify mechanical defects.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements within mining and construction environments.
Key Responsibilities Equipment Operation
- Operate telescopic handlers (Telehandlers/Magni/Manitou/Merlo) safely and efficiently in accordance with site requirements and operating procedures.
- Transport, lift, position, and stack materials, equipment, and supplies as required.
- Conduct lifting activities in accordance with approved lifting plans and safety standards.
- Ensure loads are secured and handled within the equipment's rated capacity limits.
- Assist with material distribution and logistical support across operational areas.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all company, client, and site-specific health and safety regulations.
- Perform daily pre-operational inspections and safety checks on equipment.
- Report defects, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and risk assessments.
- Maintain compliance with relevant mining, construction, and occupational health and safety legislation.
Equipment Maintenance
- Conduct routine housekeeping and basic preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Monitor fuel, hydraulic fluid, and lubrication levels.
- Report maintenance requirements and equipment faults to the relevant supervisor.
- Ensure equipment is kept clean, serviceable, and in good working condition.
General Duties
- Assist with loading and offloading of materials and equipment deliveries.
- Support construction, maintenance, shutdown, and mining activities as required.
- Maintain accurate operational records and inspection checklists.
- Work collaboratively with rigging teams, supervisors, logistics personnel, and site management.
