An exciting opportunity has become available within a leading mining safety technology environment for an experienced and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join a highly innovative and fast-growing engineering team based in Potchefstroom.
This role is ideal for a technically minded individual with strong documentation, engineering communication, and structured writing capability who enjoys translating complex technical systems into clear, practical, and user-friendly documentation.
🔧 ABOUT THE ROLE
You will be responsible for developing, structuring, maintaining, and controlling technical documentation across a wide range of advanced mining safety and collision prevention technologies used within underground and surface mining environments.
Systems include:
✅ Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS)
✅ Pedestrian Detection Systems (PDS)
✅ Missing Person Locator Systems (MPL)
✅ Railbound Safety Solutions
✅ Lamproom Management Systems
✅ Integrated Mining Safety Technologies
This role works closely with Engineering, R&D, Installations, Training, and Technical Support teams to ensure all technical documentation is accurate, compliant, and aligned to operational requirements.
🎯 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop operator manuals, installation manuals, commissioning guides, and technical user documentation
• Create structured fault-finding and troubleshooting guides
• Maintain document control and version management systems
• Develop technical diagrams, flowcharts, tables, and illustrations
• Work closely with engineering teams to verify technical information
• Develop and issue technical bulletins and system updates
• Ensure all documentation aligns with quality standards and operational requirements
• Maintain revision histories and document registers
✅ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum 2 years’ experience writing technical training or engineering documentation
• Minimum 2 years’ exposure within a technical, engineering, mining, or industrial environment
• Strong understanding of technical systems and electrical fundamentals
• Engineering Diploma or Degree advantageous
• Excellent written English communication skills
• High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and formatting tools
• Strong attention to detail and structured writing ability
