STORE MANAGER – RETAIL

A well-established national retailer is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Store Manager to take full responsibility for the performance, profitability and day-to-day operations of a busy retail store.
This opportunity is suited to a confident retail leader who is hands-on, customer-focused and comfortable managing sales, stock, finances, employees and operational compliance. The successful candidate will lead from the front, maintain high store standards and develop a strong, accountable team.

Key Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for store profitability and operational performance.
• Drive sales across multiple retail categories and ensure that agreed targets are achieved.
• Manage store budgets, expenses, financial records, cash resources and banking processes.
• Oversee stock ordering, stock levels, stocktakes, shrinkage and inventory accuracy.
• Investigate negative stock, dormant stock, stock variances and negative gross-profit values.
• Ensure promotional campaigns, pricing, product displays and merchandising standards are correctly implemented.
• Maintain excellent store presentation, housekeeping and visual merchandising standards.
• Manage cash-office and point-of-sale operations, including daily takings, floats, reconciliations and tender discrepancies.
• Deliver a consistently high level of customer service and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, leave, attendance, overtime and general HR administration.
• Coach, mentor and develop employees and junior managers.
• Manage employee performance and ensure that training and development plans are followed.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, standard operating procedures, internal controls and health and safety requirements.

The position carries responsibility for the full retail operation, including financial management, stock control, sales, merchandising, cash-office processes, customer service and team leadership.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12, Matric or Senior Certificate.
• A minimum of five years’ retail store management experience.
• Strong experience managing store sales, stock, finances, customer service and employees.
• Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Strong numerical, analytical and reporting ability.
• Willing and able to work retail hours.
• Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
• South African citizenship.
• Clear criminal record and credit record.

A management, retail management or relevant commercial qualification would be advantageous. Experience using SAP, Unisolv, QlikView, Kronos or SuccessFactors would also be beneficial.
