The Role: Senior Technical Draughtsperson (AutoCAD)

This role acts as the technical bridge between conceptual design and the factory floor by producing detailed manufacturing blueprints. The purpose is to integrate structural chassis design with internal electrical and solar infrastructure to ensure designs are optimized for production. The main focus areas include generating technical drawings, designing 12V and solar systems, and collaborating with fabrication teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Use a minimum of 5 years of professional drafting experience within a manufacturing or engineering-heavy environment.

• Generate high-accuracy 2D and 3D technical drawings using AutoCAD for custom-built mobile units.

• Design and draft comprehensive electrical wiring diagrams focusing on AC and specialized DC systems.

• Develop detailed layouts for 12V electrical panelling, distribution boards, and battery management systems.

• Incorporate solar panel arrays and charging controllers into technical drafts.

• Compile accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) to support procurement and manufacturing cycles.

• Collaborate with workshop and fabrication teams to ensure material efficiency.

• Incorporate steel fabrication, GRP, and plumbing integration into designs.

About You

• Minimum of 5 years of professional drafting experience in manufacturing or engineering.

• Expert-level command of AutoCAD.

• Essential exposure to 3D modelling and mechanical detailing.

• Solid technical understanding of 12V DC systems and Solar power integration.

• Ability to interpret complex engineering specifications and translate them into shop drawings.

• Ability to work on-site in Blackheath, Cape Town.

• Meticulous professional with a measure twice, cut once mindset.

• Experience in trailer manufacturing, caravan construction, or automotive bodybuilding.

• Experience in the design and layout of custom 12V electrical control panels.
