Senior Paint Technician

POSITION INFO:
The company requires the services of a Senior Paint Technician responsible for leading product development and optimisation projects. The candidate must be experienced in paint formulating, particularly with experience in the decorative paint segment. A strong work ethic with a positive outlook and inquisitive nature will be favored.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Provide support to ad hoc technical requests from operations, sales and external customers
• Optimise existing products with regards to performance and cost
• Develop new products
• Evaluate and approve alternative raw materials
• Evaluate competitor products
• Provide technical support to factory technical, procurement, marketing and sales teams
• Investigate product complaints
• Provide supporting documents for products including data sheets, FAQ’s, product presentations
• Writing lab reports
• Stay informed with industry trends and regulations
Desired Qualification, Experience and Skills
- BSc or National Diploma in Chemistry, Polymer Science or a related field
- 8+ years of related work experience as a Formulating Chemist in water-based paints or related experience is highly preferred
- Understanding of paint formulating fundamentals and demonstrated formulating competence
- High level of conceptual and analytical thinking
- Highly organised, detail-orientated and systematic approach in laboratory work
- Knowledge of and strict adherence to standard lab practices
- Good interpersonal and communications skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office - Excel and Word
- The ability to work independently and in a team
- Positive and inquisitive outlook, taking initiative and drive to see through projects
- Innovative and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to work under pressure
- Able to adapt quickly in a work environment with changing priorities
