Are you a credible insurance accounting specialist ready to transition from technical execution into a senior leadership role? Our client, a leading outsourcing provider for actuarial and specialist advisory services on the African continent, is looking for an Associate Director / Senior Manager to lead their Insurance Accounting & Managed Services platform.
This is a senior leadership appointment for a finance professional with deep IFRS expertise. You will lead the firm’s Managed Insurance & Accounting Services platform, taking primary responsibility for IFRS 17 delivery, technical quality, and direct client engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Service Leadership: Leading and overseeing IFRS 17 managed service engagements, including the technical review of financial statements, disclosures, and trial balances.
Technical Oversight: Establish technical standards and remain involved in complex or judgment-intensive accounting areas.
Systems & Reporting: Designing and implementing IFRS 17 reporting structures, including chart of accounts architecture and system output mapping.
Stakeholder Engagement: Serving as a senior accounting liaison to provide technical guidance and training to finance stakeholders.
Operations & Governance: Managing engagement economics and resource planning while strengthening governance frameworks, controls, and documentation standards.
Collaboration: Working with actuarial and systems specialists to ensure alignment between data flows and accounting treatments.
Team Development: Leading, coaching, and developing qualified and junior accounting professionals.
Requirements:
Our client is seeking a professional who meets the following criteria:
Qualification: CA(SA), CPA, or an equivalent Chartered Accountant qualification.
Experience: 8–12 years of post-articles experience, with substantial exposure to insurance or reinsurance clients.
Technical Expertise: A strong technical grounding in IFRS, with demonstrable experience in financial statement preparation and review.
IFRS 17: Practical experience with IFRS 17, ideally across both implementation and post-implementation environments.
Professional Background: Experience within a Big Four or comparable professional services environment is strongly preferred.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, review complex accounting judgments, and manage multiple client engagements under deadline pressure.
Operational Mindset: Ability to structure reporting processes, embed controls, and improve efficiency using an operational, data-driven approach.
