POSITION INFO:

Our client is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to contribute to geotechnical, tailings and mine-infrastructure projects in Namibia.

The position will involve technical design, project planning, site investigations, project coordination and the surveillance of tailings storage facilities and associated water-management infrastructure.

 

• Plan, schedule and coordinate civil engineering projects.
• Lead the design of tailings storage facilities, return-water dams and associated mine infrastructure.
• Manage engineering projects from concept development through detailed design.
• Conduct stability analyses, seepage modelling and slope evaluations.
• Carry out surveillance and monitoring inspections of existing facilities.
• Perform or assist with Engineer of Record annual audit inspections.
• Conduct site investigations and obtain relevant field information.
• Prepare proposals and assist with the appointment of subcontractors and subconsultants.
• Administer standard engineering contracts.
• Monitor project programmes, budgets, quality requirements and technical standards.
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings and design documentation.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Delegate work and provide technical guidance to graduate, junior and intermediate engineers.
• Report project progress, risks and technical matters to project managers and directors.

• BEng or BSc Eng degree in Civil Engineering.
• Between five and seven years’ relevant civil engineering experience.
• Experience focused on geotechnical engineering, tailings and/or mine infrastructure.
• Applicants must be Namibian nationals in accordance with local legal requirements.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
• Experience in geotechnical analysis and modelling.
• Understanding of mine-infrastructure design standards.
• Strong project management and investigative capabilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MS Project.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience with slope-stability, seepage-analysis and finite-element modelling software such as GeoStudio and Plaxis.
• Valid driver’s licence and passport.
• Willingness to travel for site visits, investigations and client meetings.
