Senior Bookkeeper / Accountant

SUMMARY:
This is a hands-on role for someone who knows bookkeeping inside out, can work independently, and is comfortable managing accounts through to trial balance. The role offers broad exposure across reconciliations, tax compliance, management reporting, debtors, creditors and month-end processes.

POSITION INFO:
A well-established group operating across multiple entities is looking for a dependable Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of its day-to-day finance function.

Duties / Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full bookkeeping function through to trial balance.
• Process journals and complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain the fixed asset register.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Assist with monthly management accounts and reporting.
• Prepare VAT reconciliations and support VAT submissions.
• Assist with EMP201, EMP501 and other SARS requirements.
• Prepare tax and audit schedules and liaise with SARS when needed.
• Reconcile customer and supplier accounts.
• Monitor outstanding debtors and creditors and assist with collections.
• Allocate receipts and payments and assist with payment preparation.
• Support daily cash flow reporting, audit files and ad hoc financial analysis.

Requirements

• 8–10 years' bookkeeping or accounting experience. (Years of required experience negotiable depending on tertiary education)
• Strong experience managing accounts through to trial balance.
• Experience preparing monthly management accounts.
• Solid knowledge of VAT and SARS compliance.
• Experience working across multiple companies or entities is advantageous.
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
• Sage 50 / Sage Pastel experience preferred.
• CaseWare or Draftworx exposure is advantageous.

Education

• Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance or Bookkeeping preferred.
• Strong relevant experience may be considered in place of a formal qualification.

Salary

• The proposed salary for the role is around R25k - R30k per month - the offer is marginally negotiable but the final offer will depend on qualifications, experience and skills.
