Our client is a UK-based accounting firm building out a dedicated South African bookkeeping team to support its growing operations. The business is focused on delivering high-quality bookkeeping services to UK clients while creating a closely connected and collaborative culture between the UK and South African teams.

This role offers the opportunity to become a key operational leader within the South African office, taking ownership of bookkeeping delivery, supporting team growth, and helping shape the long-term success of the offshore function.

The Role: Senior Bookkeeper

We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to manage end-to-end UK bookkeeping operations using Sage and Xero while acting as the operational lead for the South African bookkeeping pod. This is a hands-on bookkeeping role combined with leadership responsibilities, where you will support UK management, mentor junior staff, and ensure service continuity across the team.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining operational stability during a planned maternity leave period while helping build a strong, integrated relationship between the UK and South African teams.

Key Responsibilities

5+ years of senior-level bookkeeping experience, ideally supporting UK clients or UK accounts
Manage end-to-end UK bookkeeping operations using Sage and Xero
Lead the day-to-day operations of the South African bookkeeping pod
Train, mentor, and delegate work to junior bookkeeping staff
Ensure seamless continuity of accounts during key transition periods
Act as the primary operational contact between the South African office and UK management team
Maintain accurate bookkeeping records and ensure high service standards
Foster strong communication and collaboration between the UK and South African teams
Support the onboarding and development of new junior team members as the offshore pod expands

About You

5+ years of senior bookkeeping experience
Advanced working knowledge of Sage and Xero bookkeeping software
Proven experience training, mentoring, or managing junior staff
Experience working with UK bookkeeping processes or UK-based clients
Strong leadership and delegation skills
Excellent cross-border communication skills
Highly organised with strong accountability and autonomy
Comfortable working in an office-based environment aligned to UK working hours
Able to build positive working relationships across geographically distributed teams

Working Hours

Monday to Thursday: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM UK Time
Friday: 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM UK Time
