An established legal practice with offices in Johannesburg North. The firm operates within a professional legal environment and requires a hands-on finance professional with strong knowledge of legal bookkeeping, trust accounting and compliance.

Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Bookkeeper to take responsibility for the full-function daily bookkeeping and accounting requirements of the practice.

The successful candidate must have proven experience within a legal environment, with strong knowledge of Trust and Business Accounts, legal accounting processes and compliance requirements. Experience with legal accounting software and the ability to work accurately under pressure are essential.

You will be responsible for:

Managing full-function daily legal bookkeeping and accounting tasks.
Managing and reconciling Trust and Business Accounts.
Managing Trust and Business Creditors.
Processing and reconciling S86(4) Client Investments.
Performing Law Society interest calculations and reconciliations.
Preparing monthly VAT reconciliations and VAT201 submissions.
Assisting with annual audits and ensuring compliance with applicable legal accounting rules.
Preparing internal reporting on transactions in compliance with FIC requirements.
Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring all transactions are correctly processed.
Providing financial and administrative support as required.
Ensuring all bookkeeping and accounting functions are completed accurately and timeously.

Qualifications

Matric with Accounting as a subject will be advantageous.
Bookkeeping / Accounting qualification will be advantageous.

Skills

The successful candidate will have:

Minimum 5 years’ relevant legal bookkeeping experience.
Strong knowledge of Trust and Business Account management and reconciliations.
Strong knowledge of legal accounting processes and compliance requirements.
Experience with S86(4) Client Investments and Law Society interest calculations and reconciliations.
Proficiency in legal accounting software.
Experience with Lexpro Legal Accounting Software will be advantageous.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel at an intermediate to advanced level, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Strong focus and ability to work independently.
English proficiency is essential.
Knowledge of Afrikaans will be advantageous.
