POSITION INFO:
Bakery seeks a Safety & Wellness Practitioner to maintain the implemented EHS plans, programs and activities. Promoting a healthy and safe environment by ensuring that the Plant has effective systems and procedures in place to meet regulatory, public and global company requirements. Ensuring that all statuary requirements are met with respect to the company’s buildings, people and product.
Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge
Minimum 3 year post matric qualification in Production/Engineering/Technical and/or Internal Prior Learning
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar task (preferably food manufacturing industry)
Computer capabilities: SAP, MS Office Programs
Knowledge of food safety, health and safety systems (HACCP, ISO 22000) and Bakery operation
Duties and responsibilities
Develop and support EHS programs, ensuring compliance to the National, Provincial and Local regulations; as well as Group Policies
Review policies in order to maintain and manage comprehensive health, safety and environmental services for the Plant, safeguarding all personnel and company assets
Prepare site for audits. Assist in conducting internal site audits and report on effectiveness of plant’s safety and environment procedures and programs. Compile action plans following audit recommendations and drive the implementation thereof
Accountable for required environmental, health and safety metric and regulatory reporting
Work with leadership to respond to complaints and concerns as necessary from external stakeholders in relation to safety and environmental issues
Work with site team to develop and implement initiatives to reduce injury rate
Work with contractors / consultant personnel as needed to deliver EHS objectives
Responsible for working with site leadership to drive staff engagement on safety and health. Proactively engage in the development and training of personnel and support such plans developed by site leadership
Provide guidance to manufacturing and engineering project teams to ensure that operational health & safety specifications are in line with latest legislation
Co-ordinate the investigation of any environmental incident, safety accident, safety hazard or risk and recommend preventative measures to minimise potential risks to both personnel and the company
Ensure that site safety performance improves continually
Proactively investigate best practice in safety systems and makes recommendations, accordingly, ensuring that the environment remains uncompromised
Comply with and ensure that all environment, health and safety rules are met and act pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other associates
Ensure appropriate record keeping is maintained for the site in relation to regulatory testing and documentation for internal audits and government bodies, inclusive of all internal & external environmental reporting and licensing requirements for the company

Required bakery PPE to be worn whilst on duty and in required areas
