Re-Engineering Draughtsman (Steel Sector)

SUMMARY:
Bilnor Staffing Solutions' client in the steel sector is looking for an experienced Re-Engineering Draughtsman to join their team in Germiston, GT.

The Re-Engineering Draughtsman is responsible for reverse-engineering existing components, redesigning outdated or obsolete parts, and producing accurate technical drawings and 3D models to support manufacturing improvements, cost reduction, and product optimization.

The role requires strong mechanical understanding, CAD proficiency, and the ability to interpret engineering requirements into practical, manufacturable solutions

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:

• Perform dimensional analysis, component measurement, and disassembly to recreate technical drawings for existing parts.
• Identify engineering improvements for manufacturability, performance enhancement, or cost
• Translate legacy drawings, rough sketches, or physical components into CAD models and updated engineering documentation.
• Develop detailed 2D and 3D drawings, assemblies, and fabrication drawings using CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar
• Ensure all drawings comply with manufacturing standards, tolerances, and company drafting
• Update and revise drawings based on engineering changes, production feedback, or inspection
• Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical specifications, and material lists for production
• Work with machinists, welders, and fabricators to ensure drawings align with available manufacturing capabilities.
• Support troubleshooting during manufacturing by clarifying drawing requirements or revising designs for feasibility.
• Maintain accurate revision histories and drawing version control in line with engineering standards.
• Verify accuracy and completeness of drawings before production release.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry drafting standards (ISO, OEM specs, internal QA requirements).
• Work closely with engineers, production teams, quality inspectors, and project managers to integrate feedback into designs.
• Attend technical meetings and support re-engineering projects involving redesign, product  improvements, or line optimization.

• Education- Grade 12
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor or similar). Good communication and teamwork skills.
• 3-5 years drafting experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Previous experience in reverse engineering or redesign work highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with fabrication, machining, welding, and assembly processes.
  Strong 2D/3D CAD modelling and technical drawing expertise
• Knowledge of mechanical components, materials, tolerances, and industry standards Understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
