Position Overview:
Seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead quality assurance and quality control across electrical infrastructure works, including the construction, testing and commissioning of substations, MV reticulation and overhead power lines associated with renewable wind energy projects. The successful candidate will establish and maintain robust project quality systems, ensure compliance with contractual and statutory requirements, and promote a culture of right-first-time delivery from engineering and procurement through construction, commissioning and handover.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement and maintain the Project Quality Management Plan and supporting procedures in line with ISO 9001, contract requirements, approved drawings, specifications and applicable standards.
- Lead QA/QC activities on renewable wind projects.
- Review and approve inspection and test plans, method statements, checklists, quality dossiers and project-specific quality documentation.
- Plan and conduct internal, supplier and subcontractor audits; monitor corrective actions and verify close-out.
- Manage non-conformance reports, root-cause investigations, corrective and preventive actions, concessions and quality observations.
- Coordinate inspections, hold points, witness points, factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, testing and commissioning records.
- Ensure materials and equipment are traceable and supported by approved technical submissions, certificates and inspection records.
- Monitor quality performance, identify recurring trends and report key indicators, risks and improvement actions to project leadership.
- Provide quality guidance and training to construction teams, subcontractors, suppliers and site quality personnel.
- Liaise with clients, engineers, contractors and statutory bodies on quality matters and support successful project handover and close-out.
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, quality planning, assurance, control, auditing and continuous improvement.
- Sound technical understanding of HV and MV substations, transformers, switchgear, protection and control systems, earthing, cabling and associated civil works.
- Practical knowledge of overhead transmission and distribution line construction, including foundations, tower or pole erection, conductor stringing, fittings, inspections and testing.
- Working knowledge of renewable wind energy electrical balance-of-plant projects.
- Knowledge of applicable IEC, SANS, contractual and statutory requirements.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection and test plans, checklists and test results.
- Competence in managing non-conformances, root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, concessions and lessons learned.
- Strong audit, inspection, analytical, reporting and document-control skills, including preparation of complete quality dossiers and handover records.
- Effective leadership, communication and stakeholder-coordination skills when working with clients, engineers, contractors, suppliers and construction teams.
- Good planning, prioritization and problem-solving ability in multi-disciplinary and multi-site project environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required (Project bound)
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Relevant degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Quality Management, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years’ QA/QC experience in electrical infrastructure or EPC construction, including 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
