POSITION INFO:
Role Purpose
The Plumber (General) - Certifying is responsible for delivering high-quality plumbing maintenance, repairs, and installations across a portfolio of transport infrastructure, commercial, and industrial sites.
This role supports our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) contract delivery, including reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), asset lifecycle management, and minor capital works.
The position plays a key role in ensuring critical public infrastructure - such as bus stations, ferry terminals, and commercial facilities - remains safe, compliant, and fully operational.
In addition, this role will be responsible for supervising a team of plumbers, ensuring that work is completed to the highest standards, within compliance requirements, and delivered efficiently across all projects and maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reactive Works
- Respond to plumbing callouts across Auckland Transport sites (bus stations, ferry terminals, car parks) and commercial clients
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on water supply, sanitary, and drainage systems
- Clear blockages and maintain drainage networks to minimise service disruption
- Complete work orders accurately using company systems (e.g., Simpro)
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Perform scheduled maintenance in line with asset management plans and BWOF requirements
- Inspect plumbing assets and provide condition ratings aligned with NAMS standards
- Identify deteriorating assets and recommend proactive repairs or replacement
Installation & Projects
- Install pipework, fixtures, hot water systems, and sanitary appliances
- Carry out small to medium project work including upgrades and refurbishments
- Read and interpret drawings and specifications for installation work
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure all work complies with the Building Act 2004 and relevant plumbing standards
- Operate in accordance with the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006
- Support BWOF compliance processes, including working alongside IQPs where required
- Maintain high workmanship standards aligned with The Client quality expectations
Health & Safety
- Adhere to all safety procedures under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015
- Complete job safety analyses and hazard assessments before commencing work
- Use PPE and follow site-specific safety requirements, especially in public-facing environments
Client & Team Engagement
- Communicate professionally with clients, site managers, and other trades
- Provide clear feedback on asset condition, risks, and recommended actions
- Work collaboratively with electrical, HVAC, and operations teams to deliver integrated MEP solutions
Skills and Competencies
- Strong practical knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and maintenance
- Experience in fault finding and working in live operational environments
- Ability to manage reactive workloads and prioritise urgent jobs (including critical failures)
- Understanding of asset condition and lifecycle principles (desirable)
- Competent in using mobile job management systems (e.g., Simpro)
- Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills
Qualifications and Experience
- National Certificate in Plumbing (Level 4) or equivalent
- Current registration or licensing with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board
- Minimum 2–3 years’ relevant industry experience (commercial maintenance preferred)
- Full New Zealand driver’s licence
- Valid NZ working rights preferred

- Field-based role across Auckland, including high-profile public infrastructure sites
- Combination of reactive callouts, scheduled maintenance, and project work
- May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and in all weather conditions
