Piggery Farm Manager

SUMMARY:
The Piggery Farm Manager is responsible for the overall management and day-to-day operations of the piggery at Chalala2. The manager ensures efficient production, animal health and welfare, staff supervision, biosecurity, and compliance with industry standards aligned with the company’s commitment to sustainable and ethical farming.
Key Responsibilities

• Operational Management: Oversee all aspects of pig production across farrowing, weaner, grower, and finisher units. Ensure smooth daily operations to meet production targets.
• Breeding & Reproductive Performance: Manage breeding stock, artificial insemination (AI) programs, and maintain high conception rates and piglet welfare.
• Feeding & Nutrition: Coordinate pig feeding schedules and manage feed orders while optimizing feed conversion ratios to improve production efficiency.
• Animal Health & Medication: Implement animal health protocols, administer medications, and coordinate with veterinary services to maintain herd health.
• Biosecurity & Hygiene: Enforce biosecurity measures and maintain cleanliness to prevent disease outbreaks, meeting Pork 360 quality assurance and national agricultural standards.
• Staff Management: Supervise, train, and motivate piggery staff. Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and foster good labour practices in line with South African industry requirements.
• Equipment & Facility Maintenance: Oversee maintenance of piggery infrastructure and equipment to ensure operational safety and efficiency.
• Record-Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of production, breeding, health, feed consumption, and farm activities. Provide regular reports to senior farm manager.
• Cost Control & Sustainability: Manage budgets, expenses, and work towards cost reduction initiatives.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to agricultural regulations, animal welfare standards, and occupational health and safety protocols.

POSITION INFO:
Skills & Qualifications

• At least 10 years proven experience in piggery farm management, preferably in large-scale operations.
• Strong knowledge of pig breeding, animal husbandry, nutrition, and health management.
• Ability to manage teams and maintain high staff performance.
• Familiarity with biosecurity protocols and quality assurance systems like Pork 360.
• Competence in farm administration, record keeping, and reporting.
• Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Agricultural degree or relevant certification advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to work flexible hours.
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and operational efficiency improvements.
