Personal Tax Assistant
Modderfontein, East Johannesburg (Office-based)

A well-established accounting practice with a focus on personal tax is seeking a motivated Personal Tax Assistant to join their small, dedicated team. In this role, you'll report directly to the tax practitioner and business owner, managing daily admin, client communication, tax preparation, and interactions with SARS. This East Rand-based position offers a solid foundation with strong mentorship and clear opportunities for long-term growth into a more strategic role.

POSITION INFO:
Requirements:
- A completed qualification in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or Business (essential)
- 1–2 years’ experience working with personal tax returns and SARS eFiling (preferred)
- Proficient in English (Afrikaans a bonus)
- Confident using Excel and Google Workspace
- High level of accuracy and a strong problem-solving mindset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-starter with a collaborative attitude
- A genuine interest in building a career in personal tax
Duties and responsibilities:
- Serve as the initial point of contact for client queries and onboarding
- Draft and prepare annual and provisional tax returns for review
- Address and resolve eFiling-related issues on behalf of clients
- Liaise directly with SARS, including via phone and in-person visits
- Assist with ad hoc tasks such as directives, foreign tax support, and backlog returns
- Handle administrative responsibilities like billing, invoicing, and document management
- Support marketing and systems development, including templates and process updates
- Participate in ongoing learning via webinars and training during quieter periods

Work Setup:
- Office-based only (no hybrid/remote option currently)
- Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:00–16:00 | Friday 8:00–14:00
