Payroll manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Role Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall supervision of the payroll department (3 payroll administrators), accurate payroll records and payment for a staff compliment of approximately 800 employees.
  • Reviewing of all payrolls i.e. checking time sheets, checking the accuracy of pay computations and ensuring that necessary documents are processed on time.
  • Processing of the Packaging Company payroll and Head Office staff payroll consisting of approximately 50 employees.
  • Managing, supervising, and providing training to 3 payroll administrators.
  • Managing employee benefits i.e. Provident Fund and Medical Aid
  • Ensuring all clocking of employees are received regularly through the Sentri clocking system
  • Verifying the integrity of all documentation received for processing i.e. leave forms, new hires, terminations, transfers, salary increases, promotions, garnishees, overtime and other payroll related services, etc
  • Handling all pay related queries and providing necessary feedback to employees
  • Preparing and reviewing all ACB files prior to payment
  • Preparing 3rd party payments i.e. provident funds, medical aid and SARS
  • Ensuring that company benefit programmes i.e. medical aid, pensions, bonuses etc. are managed efficiently and effectively
  • Maintenance of staff payroll and tax records
  • Reviewing and submitting EMP201 returns on SARS E-filing
  • Completing annual & bi-annual EMP501 submissions
  • Submitting Annual Return of Earnings submission (Workman’s Compensation and Rand Mutual Assurance)
  • Submitting annual Employment Equity Reports including setting up of appropriate reports in Sage VIP
  • Submitting annual W&R SETA skills submissions
  • Attending and participating in New Africa Petroleum skills committee meetings
  • Assisting Finance Department with required information in preparations for year end audits
  • Managing payroll systems and suggesting changes/upgrades as and when required.
  • Managing ETI claims and audits
  • Liaising with HR staff regarding new appointments, terminations and other relevant matters.
  • General admin including CCMA related payment enquiries
  • Advise staff on updates or changes to company policy and procedures where appropriate
  • Ad-hoc recruitment as and when required

Requirements:

  • Relevant HR diploma or degree including qualifications associated with payroll
  • 10 years of experience
  • Knowledge of South African laws and HR compliance, employment equity and skills development
  • Computer literate and proficient in Sage VIP, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook)
