Payroll Accountant & HR Administrator

Are you a payroll and accounting professional who enjoys working with both the numbers and the people side of the business?
Our client is looking for a Payroll Accountant & HR Administrator to join their Head Office team. This is a varied role combining payroll accounting, statutory compliance, reconciliations and HR administration, making it ideal for someone who is detail-driven, organised and comfortable working to strict deadlines. Experience in Sage 300 People highly advantageous.

POSITION INFO:

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll take responsibility for ensuring the monthly payroll is accurate, compliant and processed on time, while also supporting the accounting and HR functions.
Your role will include:

Reviewing monthly payroll and investigating variances before final sign-off
Managing payroll reconciliations and ensuring payroll balances correctly to the General Ledger
Preparing and reviewing payroll journals and related accounting entries
Overseeing EMP201 and EMP501 processes and supporting SARS compliance
Preparing payroll and management reports
Assisting with month-end, year-end and audit requirements
Handling payroll and salary-related queries
Maintaining accurate and confidential employee records
Supporting onboarding, offboarding and recruitment administration
Assisting with employee benefits and HR reporting
Supporting EE submissions and Scorecard audit requirements
Ensuring payroll and HR processes remain compliant with relevant legislation

What We’re Looking For

You’ll need to be someone who is strong on payroll, confident with accounting and meticulous when it comes to detail.
You should have:

A relevant Diploma, Degree or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Finance, Payroll, HR or a related field
5–10 years’ experience across payroll and HR administration
At least 5 years’ finance and accounting experience
Solid hands-on payroll processing experience
Strong knowledge of PAYE, UIF, SDL and SARS payroll requirements
Practical experience with EMP201 and EMP501
Good knowledge of South African employment legislation
Strong Excel skills
Experience working with payroll and/or accounting systems
Excellent reconciliation and numerical skills
The ability to work accurately under pressure and meet non-negotiable payroll deadlines

You are highly organised, analytical and trustworthy, with the ability to handle sensitive employee and financial information with absolute discretion.
You’re comfortable working independently, but equally happy collaborating with both Finance and HR. You notice discrepancies, ask the right questions and don't wait until month-end to discover that something doesn't balance!
