Paralegal - Personal injury
POSITION INFO:
Job Purpose
To provide exceptional client service by managing personal injury matters from initial instruction through to progression for litigation or settlement. The Paralegal will ensure accurate client onboarding, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and efficient case management while supporting attorneys in delivering high quality legal services.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and manage new claim referrals from internal teams, referral partners, insurers and other approved referral sources.
- Review all new files to ensure the required documentation has been received and that matters are ready for onboarding.
- Conduct client identity verification and ensure compliance with FICA and other regulatory requirements.
- Open and maintain files on the firm's case management system.
- Obtain detailed instructions from clients regarding the accident, injuries sustained, medical treatment received and financial losses.
- Gather and review supporting documentation, including accident reports, medical records, hospital records, insurance documentation and witness statements where applicable.
- Explain the firm's fee agreement, legal process and expected timelines to clients.
- Prepare and submit Road Accident Fund (RAF) claim documentation and ensure all statutory requirements and deadlines are met.
- Liaise with clients, the Road Accident Fund, insurers, medical practitioners, expert witnesses and other third parties regarding the progress of matters.
- Monitor the progress of claims and ensure matters are progressed efficiently within prescribed timeframes.
- Identify matters requiring legal intervention and escalate them to the responsible attorney.
- Maintain accurate file notes and update the firm's case management system.
- Assist with general administrative duties within the Personal Injury Department.
- Perform any other duties reasonably required by management.

Experience Required
- Previous experience in a legal, litigation or personal injury environment.
- Experience working with legal case management systems.
- Experience dealing directly with clients and external stakeholders.
- Strong administrative experience within a professional services environment.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with Road Accident Fund (RAF) claims.
- Knowledge of civil litigation procedures.
- Familiarity with FICA and POPIA compliance requirements.
