Qetello Holdings, recruiting on behalf of our client in Durbanville, Cape Town, seeks a CHEP Pallet Controller to manage and reconcile the CHEP pallet pool across multiple sites and carriers. Ensure accurate, on-time movement capture, minimise losses and hire costs, and support compliant returns and on-time deliveries.
Role Purpose
Own, control, and reconcile the company’s CHEP pallet pool across all sites and carriers. Ensure complete, accurate, and timely capture of movements to minimise loss, disputes, and hire costs while enabling on-time dispatch and compliant returns.
Key Responsibilities
1) Daily Operations & Administration
- Capture all movements (issues, accepts, exchanges, returns, scrap/repair) in MyCHEP and company systems.
- Validate documentation (PODs, delivery notes, driver sheets, GRVs); rectify defects promptly.
- Process transfers to customers/suppliers/carriers within 24 hours of movement.
- Brief dispatch teams and drivers on pallet quantities and exchange rules; confirm at gate.
2) Reconciliation, Disputes & Cost Control
- Perform daily/weekly reconciliations of system vs physical by site/partner.
- Investigate variances to root cause; open, track, and close disputes with CHEP/partners.
- Review monthly hire/handling charges; flag anomalies, propose recoveries/charge-backs.
- Prepare month-end reporting (aging of open items, dispute register, variance analysis, write-off proposals).
3) Governance, Audit & Continuous Improvement
- Enforce CHEP exchange rules, company SOPs, and document control for audit readiness.
- Lead cycle counts and coordinate full stock takes and external/CHEP audits.
- Coach operations teams on pallet segregation (CHEP vs non-pool) and correct handling.
- Identify process gaps; implement controls that reduce loss, damage, and admin errors.
4) Stakeholder & System Management
- Primary contact for CHEP account support and for pallet matters with customers, suppliers, and carriers.
- Maintain MyCHEP master data (accounts, addresses, contacts) and onboard new sites/partners.
- Collaborate with Transport, Warehouse, Customer Service, and Finance to align pallet flows with dispatch/reverse logistics and billing.
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric (Grade 12) essential; post-school logistics/supply chain qualification advantageous.
- 2–4 years in pallet/inventory control or transport/warehouse admin (FMCG/retail/3PL beneficial).
- Proven MyCHEP proficiency (or equivalent pool) and strong MS Excel
- Demonstrable success in reconciliations, cost control, and dispute resolution.

Working Conditions
- Warehouse/DC environment with regular floor walks with occasional inter-site travel.
- Early starts/late finishes may be required around dispatch peaks and month-end.
