Outsourced Payroll Consultant

SUMMARY:

A well-established London-based firm specializing in corporate finance, tax, and accounting is seeking a dynamic Payroll Consultant to be responsible for managing a portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring accurate and timely processing, and providing a high level of service and technical support. The role requires someone with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage deadlines, resolve complex payroll queries, and build long-term professional relationships.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have a National Senior Certificate; An Accounting, Tax, Payroll, or a related qualification would be highly advantageous
• Minimum 2 years’ experience within a payroll function, ideally within an accounting, payroll, or professional services practice environment
• Experience managing or processing payrolls for multiple clients would be advantageous
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, statutory requirements, deductions, pension contributions, and year-end reporting
• Expert user of payroll software with strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Good understanding of UK payroll legislation and regulatory requirements, including HMRC and The Pensions Regulator, would be advantageous
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with clients and colleagues
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise effectively

• Supporting and overseeing the end-to-end processing of a diverse portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring all payrolls are processed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
• Calculating and reviewing gross pay, deductions, statutory payments, pension contributions, and other payroll-related items.
• Managing year-end payroll processing and assisting with statutory reporting requirements.
• Acting as a key point of contact for an allocated portfolio of clients, building strong professional relationships and providing ongoing payroll support.
• Managing client expectations regarding deadlines, scope of work, and service delivery while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
• Investigating and resolving complex payroll queries and issues, providing clients with accurate and practical solutions.
• Ensuring payroll processes comply with current and new legislation and regulatory requirements, implementing changes where required.
• Maintaining robust internal quality-control procedures and conducting payroll reviews to identify and minimise errors.
• Identifying payroll risks relating to accuracy, compliance, data security, and confidentiality, and taking appropriate action to mitigate these risks.
• Assisting with internal audits and reviews to ensure consistent service quality across the payroll function.
• Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems, and workflows, including the use of automation to improve efficiency.
• Maintaining accurate WIP records and assisting with the timely billing of client work to support the profitability of the payroll service line.
• Keeping up to date with payroll legislation, software developments, industry best practices, and changes affecting clients.
• Working collaboratively with the wider team to maintain a high-performing, client-focused payroll function.
