Mechanical Project Engineer

Location: Gauteng

A leading organisation within the engineering and project execution environment is seeking a skilled Mechanical Project Engineer to join their team. This opportunity is suited to an experienced professional with a strong technical background and a proven ability to manage mechanical engineering projects from concept through to commissioning.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering projects safely, on time, within budget, and according to client specifications and industry standards.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities

Manage mechanical engineering projects throughout the full project lifecycle.
Coordinate engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning activities.
Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and technical specifications.
Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with project requirements, engineering standards, and safety regulations.
Review and approve mechanical drawings, designs, and technical documentation.
Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
Support procurement activities, including technical evaluations and supplier engagements.
Conduct site visits and oversee construction and commissioning activities.
Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction.

Minimum Requirements

BEng / BSc / BTech Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience in a Project Engineering role.
Proven experience within mining, manufacturing, industrial, process, energy, or infrastructure projects.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and project execution methodologies.
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
Excellent planning, communication, and organisational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.

Advantageous

ECSA registration or progress towards professional registration.
Experience within EPC or EPCM project environments.
Exposure to bulk materials handling, pumping systems, piping systems, rotating equipment, or process plants.
Knowledge of contract administration and project cost control.
