An opportunity has become available for an experienced MAINTENANCE PLANNER to join a major industrial manufacturing and power generation operation in the Mpumalanga region.
This role is ideally suited to an energetic, highly organised, and technically minded individual who thrives in fast-paced heavy industrial environments and is capable of coordinating maintenance activities across mechanical, electrical, and engineering disciplines.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in planning and coordinating preventive maintenance, shutdowns, refurbishments, and installation projects, ensuring that all resources, materials, labour, and documentation are in place to support safe and efficient execution.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed maintenance plans for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and shutdown schedules.
- Prioritise work orders according to operational criticality.
- Coordinate labour, tools, spares, and contractor requirements.
- Ensure all job packs contain scope, drawings, permits, and safety documentation.
Shutdowns, Refurbishments & Installations
- Plan and coordinate major plant shutdowns and annual maintenance outages.
- Support refurbishment and plant upgrade projects.
- Coordinate new equipment installations and commissioning activities.
- Monitor critical-path activities and resource loading.
Work Order & ERP Administration
- Manage work orders and maintenance history in the ERP/CMMS system.
- Update task lists, job plans, and equipment records.
- Track job completion and close-out documentation.
- Maintain accurate records for audit and planning purposes.
Materials & Spares Coordination
- Liaise with procurement and stores to ensure timely availability of parts and materials.
- Identify long-lead items and critical spare requirements.
- Support stock optimisation and inventory planning.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, engineering, and operations teams.
- Coordinate internal artisans and external contractors.
- Attend planning and production meetings.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Track schedule compliance, backlog, downtime, and resource utilisation.
- Prepare KPI reports and planning dashboards.
- Identify improvement opportunities to reduce downtime and costs.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure planning aligns with statutory inspections and maintenance standards.
- Verify permits, risk assessments, and isolation requirements are incorporated into job plans
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Artisan Trade Test (Mechanical, Electrical, Fitting, Millwright, Boilermaking, or similar) highly advantageous.
- Relevant qualification in Maintenance Planning, Engineering, or Project Management advantageous.
- Minimum 3–8 years’ experience in maintenance planning or maintenance coordination within heavy industry.
- Experience in manufacturing, biomass power generation, boilers, utilities, or process plants advantageous.
- Strong understanding of maintenance planning principles and shutdown coordination.
- Exposure to CMMS/ERP systems such as SAP, Pragma On Key, or similar systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and reporting skills.
- Ability to read technical drawings and equipment manuals.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills.
