SUMMARY:
An insurance company based in Rivonia/Sandton is currently seeking a Marine Underwriter.
POSITION INFO:
Candidates must have at least +5 years marine broking / underwriting experience.
Qualifications required:
- Matric
- Successfully Completed RE 1 or RE5
- NQF Level 4 certificate in short term insurance - Statement of results – 150 credits
- CPD certificates indicating that your last cycle is up to date
- Class of business certificate
- Updated DOFA report indicating that you are a registered Rep with your current Employer and that you are not working under supervision.
Duties:Adherence to Marine Standard Operating Procedures, Marine Service Delivery and Turnaround Times.
Determines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
Recommends appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis and consideration of needs analysis risk documentation and business factors.
Prepares written communications on all aspects.
Verbally notifies Account Executives and/or Client of decisions where appropriate in order to ensure clear understanding.
Ensure Completed Needs Analysis and / or Proposal forms are obtained iro all Marine Placements including FAC.
Draft and Issue Pre-Renewal Preparation Pack and submit to AE for onward submission the client.
Draft and Issue Broking Notes to Market and undertake thorough Market Exercise.
Draft and Issue tailor made Policy wordings
Draft and Issue Endorsements
Draft and Issue Export Insurance Certificates
Draft and Issue Confirmation of Insurance Letters
Issue New Business Quotations (Annual and Facultative) – Import, Export, Inland Transit, Stock-throughput,
Hull and Liability and ability to answer questions from Account Executives and Clients alike (internal and external
contacts) and escalates issues as necessary.
Cross Selling.
Diary / Daily Task List Management and Renewal Status Report and submit to Marine Manager Weekly.
Assist claims technician in the handling of complex claims (Insurer and Client discussions) e.g. Repudiations,
Survey Report queries / disputes and refer to Marine Manager for further intervention .
System A - Processing in its entirety (Invoices and/or Credit Notes and/or endorsements).
Compilation and Reporting of Monthly Renewal List and renewal status report iro allocated portfolio.
Decide financial transactions within mandate (e.g. policy wordings, renewal terms and conditions to quote
retention) and submit to Marine Manager for final review prior to submission to AE and Client.
Financials - Credit Control, Forecast, Variance Report to be updated and reported to Marine Manager on a
monthly basis.
Effective record keeping system on both the Company Share Drive and System A (all documentation to be saved).
Policy Review / Auditing upon receipt from Insurers to ensure issued in accordance with Placing Instructions
prior to submission to AE and Client.
Track Record of Survey / Risk Requirements from client/AE and communicating status report to Insurers.
Compilation of premium / claim statistics / generating line by line claims from the system, compiling loss
ratio statistics / claim frequency and/or trends.
Market negotiations and liaison.
Assist clients with technical queries as may be required.
Confirm Renewal of Policy in writing to Insurers and issuing thereof (Placing Slip).
Confirm Renewal of Policy in writing to AE and/or Client by means of Placing Slip detailed cover and exclusions.
Prepare Pre-Renewal and Renewal Documentation including FAIS Documentation.
Active participant in Client Risk Management.
Any additional Marine Related Duties as may be assigned.
Self Audit (Ensure all relevant documentation is obtained from client and insurers and filed as per filing procedure).
Develops and maintains underwriting relationships and keeps current on market movement / state.
All other duties as may be required.
