Lending Dealmaker

Our client is a respected player within the specialised finance sector, providing tailored lending and structured finance solutions to mid-market businesses across South Africa. This role focuses on originating, structuring, negotiating, and executing debt transactions while managing client relationships throughout the full transaction lifecycle.

You will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities, developing bespoke financing solutions, conducting detailed credit assessments, and coordinating internal and external stakeholders through to successful financial close. The successful candidate will manage deals from origination and credit approval through to execution, drawdown, and ongoing portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Originate and develop quality lending opportunities within the corporate and mid-market sector.
• Build and maintain a sustainable pipeline through business development and relationship management.
• Develop tailored financing solutions aligned to client requirements and business objectives.
• Structure commercially viable lending transactions while balancing risk and return considerations.
• Coordinate transactions from initial engagement through credit approval, documentation, and funding.
• Prepare transaction proposals, investment memoranda, credit submissions, and client presentations.
• Conduct detailed financial, commercial, and credit assessments.
• Analyse financial statements, cash flows, repayment capacity, and transaction risks.
• Present transactions for internal approval and engage with relevant stakeholders throughout execution.
• Manage approved transactions through to financial close and drawdown.
• Monitor portfolio performance, covenant compliance, and emerging credit risks.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, advisers, investors, and internal stakeholders.
• Stay informed on economic, industry, and regulatory developments impacting the lending environment.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives, product development, and process improvements.

Job Experience and Skills Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, or a related field.
• Postgraduate qualification (CA(SA), CFA, MBA, or related qualification) advantageous.
• 2-4 years' experience within a lending, structured finance, or dealmaking environment.
• Exposure to corporate banking, commercial banking, structured finance, private credit, asset finance, or business banking.
• Demonstrated experience in originating, structuring, and executing debt transactions.
• Strong financial statement analysis and cash flow modelling capability.
• Experience with credit underwriting, financial modelling, and transaction structuring.
• Ability to assess transaction risks and develop suitable risk mitigants.
• Experience engaging with business owners, financial directors, and professional advisers.
• Proven ability to manage transactions through approval, documentation, and funding stages.
• Strong negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Existing professional network and business development capability advantageous.
