LEGAL SECRETARY – GENERAL LITIGATION

A reputable law firm based in Pretoria East is seeking an experienced and highly organised Legal Secretary to provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support within a busy General Litigation Department.

The successful candidate must have solid experience in a litigation environment, with a strong understanding of legal processes, excellent drafting and typing skills, and the ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines and administrative responsibilities efficiently.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Matric / Grade 12

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Legal Secretary, preferably within a litigation department

• Bilingual (Afrikaans and English)

• Proven experience in General Litigation

• Experience with High Court and Magistrates’ Court matters will be advantageous

• Strong knowledge of legal terminology, processes and documentation

• Experience in drafting and formatting legal documents

• Excellent typing and computer skills

• Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook and Excel

• Experience with CaseLines, Court Online and/or LegalSuite will be advantageous

• Excellent diary and deadline management skills

• Strong administrative and organisational abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple matters simultaneously

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines

• Professional, reliable and well organised

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide comprehensive secretarial support to attorneys within the litigation department

• Draft, type, format and proofread legal documents, pleadings, notices, correspondence and other litigation documentation

• Assist with preparation and management of litigation matters

• Maintain and manage physical and electronic legal files

• Manage attorneys’ diaries, appointments, court dates, consultations and deadlines

• Ensure important litigation dates and deadlines are diarised and followed up

• Prepare and organise documents for court proceedings and consultations

• Assist with the preparation of court bundles and related documentation

• File and serve legal documents as required

• Upload and manage documents on CaseLines/Court Online, where applicable

• Liaise professionally with clients, advocates, sheriffs, courts and other legal professionals

• Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, emails and telephone enquiries

• Maintain accurate records and ensure files are kept up to date

• Perform general legal administration and office support

• Assist attorneys with any additional administrative requirements relating to their matters

• Ensure all work is completed accurately, professionally and within required deadlines
