Legal Bookkeeper - Trust & Investment Bookkeeper

Role: Legal Bookkeeper (Trusts & Investments)
Location: Bloemfontein, Free State
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: R40 000 – R50 000 CTC per month (±R650 000 per annum, including benefits)

Utilise the relocation policy (they pay for the drive or flight to Free State as well as first month accommodation) to allow sourcing candidates outside of Bloemfontein. 

An opportunity exists for an experienced Legal Bookkeeper with a strong focus on trusts and investments to join a specialised financial and legal environment. The role is centred on maximising trust interest revenue, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and supporting legal practitioners through advisory, monitoring, and reporting functions. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening stakeholder relationships, improving revenue streams, and enhancing operational efficiency within the trust interest portfolio.

POSITION INFO:

Duties: 

• Maximise trust interest through analysis, monitoring, and optimisation of accounts.
• Ensure compliance with Sections 86(2), 86(3), and 86(4).
• Resolve practitioner queries and promote revenue optimisation initiatives.

• Monitor trust account performance, balances, and trends.
• Oversee automated transfer systems and maintain relevant registers.

• Track and manage unclaimed trust monies.
• Support compliance with applicable regulations.

• Build and manage relationships with practitioners, banks, and regulators.
• Act as liaison to resolve queries and improve trust account performance.

• Identify risks and improvement opportunities.
• Report on performance, trends, and value generated.

Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or Law.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a business development, legal bookkeeping, or financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of trust accounts, trust interest, and banking products within a legal framework.
• Proven ability to analyse financial data and provide actionable insights.
• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Valid Code 8 driver’s licence.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• High attention to detail with a structured and analytical approach to work.
