Legal Admin Officer

SUMMARY:
To provide an effective and efficient legal advisory and contract management support services to the Department in order to ensure that the interests of the Department are protected against all legal risks. To provide professional quality legal service to the Department.

POSITION INFO:

• Conduct legal research on assigned legal questions using relevant legislation, case law and other legal sources.
• Compile research findings and identify possible legal options for consideration by senior legal practitioners.
• Review relevant departmental policies and identify legal implications or areas requiring attention.
• Prepare research notes, summaries and preliminary recommendations for review.
• Provide support with the drafting and review of Bills, regulations and related legislative documents.
• Provide support with the preparation of Cabinet memoranda, explanatory documents and other supporting legislative documentation.
• Conduct research on legislation administered by the Department and identify required amendments or updates.
• Assist with consultations and liaison with departmental stakeholders and relevant legal advisory structures.
• Liaise with departmental stakeholders and the office of the Chief State law Advisor.
• Assist with the review and drafting of domestic and international contracts and agreements.
• Peruse court documents and consult with the relevant  Programme.
• Assist with the preparation of instructions, documentation and information required by the State Attorney or other legal representatives.
• Monitor assigned litigation matters and maintain accurate records of pleadings, correspondence, consultations and court processes.
• Preparation and presentation of legal information sessions and workshops.
• Provide routine legal information and guidance within the scope of delegated responsibilities

 Experience

Legal related qualifcation

Atleast        8          years’  experience     within  legal    administration environment.

Knowledge of Public Service Law, Contract Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Legislative drafting,Dispute Resolution mechanisms, South African legal System, Legal compliance, Intellectual Property Law, Litigation, Ability to conduct legal research and Dispute resolution
