A well established Commercial Bank in Sandton is looking for an experienced Team Lead: Digital Channels to join their fast growing team.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Job Title:

Lead: Digital Channels

Purpose Statement:

  • To assist the Product Owner in planning and scheduling development work to ensure successful and on-time delivery of software within CED, Business Bank..
  • To provide and apply technical and functional knowledge and expertise provide and support and guide the team to operate efficiently in an agile environment.

Direct Reports:

The job holder has no direct reports within the Client Experience Deliver Digital team environment but will provide technical guidance and know-how to team members:

  • Business Analyst
  • Analyst Developers and Developers
  • Programmers
  • Test Analysts and Testers

Key Tasks & Accountabilities:

Technical team guidance and leadership

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to team members and assist with escalated / complex technical challenges and work.
  • Mentor and coach team members and provide on the job training and development
  • Responsible for maintaining in depth product knowledge of current and future development
  • Share knowledge and support the Manager in technical training needs analysis of the team members., coach and mentor the team and provide on the job training where appropriate

Solution Architecture:

  • Workshop technical specifications with the Architects to ensure full understanding of the technical specifications.
  • Identify and propose improvements to the current system architecture that emphasize reliability and scalability.

Engineering Practices and Standards:

  • As the technical lead for the team, evidence the CEO behaviours, teamwork and collaboration.
  • Set quality design standards and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure on-time delivery of high quality code by the development team.
  • Ensure the compilation and execution of test plans are completed.
  • Engage with the UAT team to ensure the smooth transfer of code from development to production.
  • Perform a quality assurance role on outputs to ensure development as per technical specification. 
  • Provide guidance on improving the quality.
  • Coordinate the investigation and fixing of production issues.
  • Adjust the work flow if needed.

Operational Oversight and Delivery:

  • Workshop functional requirements with the Business Analysts to ensure full understanding of the business requirements.
  • Engage with stakeholders to contract process and approach to address business requirements and agree timelines with respect to feedback.
  • Provide oversight of the team for on-time delivery, delivery to quality, the meeting of contracted deadlines with business and timely delivery of  developed applications and systems
  • Assist the Product Owner to plan and schedule development resources to ensure successful and on-time delivery of software, coordinating the task allocation to a specific functional team.
  • Delegate requests to team, ensuring clear understanding of business requirement.
  • Track progress against timelines; follow-up with team to ensure feedback is provided and provide feedback on request.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Information Technology - Computer Science
  • Information Technology - IT Engineering

Ideal:

  • Honours Degree
  • Information Technology - Computer Science
  • Information Technology - IT Engineering

Knowledge & Experience:

Minimum:

  • 6 years proven experience in software development
  • Strong experience as a Technical Lead / Lead Software Engineer / Lead Programmer / Lead Developer
  • Experience on C# & .NET Core Framework or Java & Spring Framework
  • Experience within a digital channels environment with exposure to mobile banking, internet banking and digital on-boarding.
  • IT systems development processes (SDLC)
  • Advanced micro-services and Solutions Architecture
  • Strong Ability with JavaScript (whether React, Angular, Vue or alternative)
  • Familiar with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code
  • Familiar with Agile and project tracking tools
  • Application development
  • Standards and governance
  • Testing practices

Ideal:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS), Docker, Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of mobile app development (whether Android, Swift, React Native, Flutter or alternative)
  • Good understanding of testing strategy, e.g. unit testing vs integration testing vs regression testing etc.
  • Previous electronic channels experience
  • Banking systems and e-Channels.
  • Best practices for Quality Assurance (QA)
