POSITION INFO:
Division: Wits Mycology
 
Main purpose of the job:

• To provide technical assistance with laboratory-based research experimental procedures
• Specific responsibilities will include supporting laboratory testing to screen two-way and three-way combinations of antifungals in vitro against Cryptococcus as part of the BALANCE project

• NICD Charm-1 Modderfontein Road, Sandringham, Johannesburg

• Culturing of Cryptococcus isolates for BALANCE project
• Prepare custom-made broth microdilution plates for two and three way antifungal combinations
• Performing broth microdilution testing of two and three way antifungal combinations against Cryptococcus
• Recording and archiving of results
• Reporting of results to line manager
• Tracking project specific consumables
• Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self management
• Follow through to ensure the quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained

• BTech or BSc Degree in Medical Microbiology or related field

• 1 year working experience in a Microbiology Laboratory

• 1 year working experience in a Microbiology Laboratory

• Excellent reporting skills
• Effective time management skills
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to work under pressure and being pro-active
